Rachel Reese is a long-time software engineer and math geek who can often be found talking to random strangers about the joys of functional programming and F#. She currently works for Jet.com in NYC, and has helped run user groups in Nashville, TN (@NashFSharp) and Burlington, VT (@VTFun). She's also an ASPInsider, an F# MVP, a Xamarin MVP, a community enthusiast, one of the founding @lambdaladies, and a Rachii. You can find her on twitter, @rachelreese, or on her blog: rachelree.se.

This session will cover the many features of functional programming languages that make this way of thinking ideal for reactive service programming. Using F#, we'll briefly cover how immutable events are especially suited to modern applications, and then move on to examples of asynchronous workflows,  MailboxProcessors, and delve into an actor library or two to demonstrate scalable and resilient code.
