Thomas Gebert is an adjunct lecturer at CUNY CityTech, a PhD student at the University of York, and a software engineer whose career has included companies such as Jet.com, Apple, Walmart Global Tech, and Reddit.
In addition to a bunch of technical tomfoolery, Thomas also enjoys watching cartoons, playing with professional audio equipment, and trying out various recipes for pizza.
I will show a demonstration of how I built a distributed hash-table video-sharing system, the technical hurdles I got over, and the advantages and disadvantages of using functional languages to do so. I gave a lightning talk in 2018 about this project, and I'd will go into more detail about the technical aspects of it, including design languages and distributed concepts like Vector Clocks.
