Thomas Gebert

Eccentric math enthusiast with years of distributed systems programming experience.

Thomas Gebert  is a software engineer based in New York City. His employment history includes Apple Inc, and WebMD. Thomas spends most of his free time either hacking on his weird projects, or slowly tearing down and rebuilding his server in his basement. He also volunteers at the Brooklyn Public Library teaching teenagers how to code in JavaScript.

I will show a demonstration of how I built a distributed hash-table video-sharing system, the technical hurdles I got over, and the advantages and disadvantages of using functional languages to do so. I gave a lightning talk in 2018 about this project, and I'd will go into more detail about the technical aspects of it, including design languages and distributed concepts like Vector Clocks.
